About the Bowls Club
Painswick is set in the centre of the glorious Cotswolds and is full of history. It calls itself the 'Queen of the Cotswolds'.
The Bowling Club was opened in 1912 based on a charitable gift to the village and enjoys spectacular views down the Painswick Valley. The Club was set up for the ordinary village men as an alternative for the local gentry. During the Second World War, wives of serving bowlers kept the green in good order and prevented it being turned into a vegetable plot. For this, they were rewarded with being allowed to bowl. The Club is now a totally mixed club.
In 1997 a new pavilion was built which greatly improved the facilities. The Green is in fine shape and members make good use of it playing friendly and league matches. Touring teams are always welcomed.
If you wish to try the game approach any member that you see at the Green or contact any of the Club Officials. We will lend all the equipment you need plus free instruction to get you going. All you need is flat soled shoes.
The Club is situated behind the Painswick Centre in Bisley Street, Painswick.
We would welcome a call from you
